2011 Year End Oahu Real Estate Report

Compared to previous years, 2011 continued to be a stabilizing year for Oahu real estate. The single-family and condominium markets saw minor fluctuations in sales from 2010, up 2.4% for condominium and down 3.2% for single-family. Despite the overall market trend, 8 market areas saw significant increases in single family market sales, including Nuuanu-Makiki (up 35.9%), Kaimuki (up 17.5%), and Manoa, (up 14.5%). Several condominium market areas also increased including Miliani (up 14.7%), Waikiki (up 14.4%), and Ala Moana-Kakaako (up 9.3%).

Median prices also saw relatively small changes with condominium prices down 1.6% for condominiums and down 3.6% in the singlefamily market. Days on market, or number of days a property is listed continues to remain low, with a median of 42 days for the condominium market and just 36 days for single family. The combination of stable market factors and low interest rates could make this the perfect time to leverage the market in your favor and achieve your new years real estate goals.

President Obama leaving Hawaii on Air Force One

President Obama just left Hawaii around 5:40 pm this evening. Here is a shot of Air Force One taking him back to Washington to get back to work after his vacation here on Oahu since Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2011.

While here, he played many rounds of golf with high school and old time friends. Had shave ice at his favorite spot Island Snow in Kailua where they even named a cone after him. Hiked a mountain trail with family. Ate dinner at a few famous restaurants like Alan Wongs, Morimoto Waikiki and Nobu Waikiki. Visited his grandfather's grave at the famous Punchbowl Cemetery. The usual early morning workouts at Kaneohe Marine Base. The only thing he did not do was get in the water and body surf at Sandy Beach which he did on a past visit here to the islands which made headline news.

With a lot of R&R and a slight tan, it's back to work to try to get our country back on track. President Obama's Hawaiian holiday vacation December 24th, 2011 - January 2nd, 2012.

1st Dinner of 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR - 2012
To start off 2012 right, I felt it was well worth eating fresh Ahi (tuna) sashimi and Hamachi (yellowtail) sashimi. We also had the traditional Japanese New Years Soup "Zouni" which is a melody of vegetables, fishcake and mochi in a very light but tasteful broth. Lastly, very small dishes in the traditional Osechi which included boiled shrimp, pickled vegetables, nishime and black beans for good luck in the New Year.

To everyone, I wish nothing but the best in 2012. Let's make it the best year.
